Frequently Asked Questions for Nonprofits

Do nonprofit organizations need yet another TA website?

Under-resourced nonprofits, like all businesses, are in need of expert advice but have limited time and energy to seek out that help. Many leaders of nonprofits do not know consultants they can call. Most will not trust an un-recommended source of support and prefer to deal only with those who are referred. Nonprofit Central NY/NJ™ provides recommended consultants and resources and it lets you see who is recommending whom. Local nonprofit leaders recommending local consultants and local resources to each other is what this site is all about.

What makes you think that another TA provider, which is in effect what this website is, is needed when we already have a host of non-profit TA providers in New York City and northern and central New Jersey?

No current nonprofit TA provider has created an online community to make it easy for nonprofit leaders to search for experienced consultants and get customized help whenever they need it -- twenty-four seven. So, we decided to do it. While we cannot promise that we'll always be available for an immediate response (we do have to go sleep once in a while!), you can post your questions whenever you have time and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

How do I know if the consultants on this website are any good?

Don't take our word for it. Don't take the consultants' word for it. Ask their references. (You will find their references in their listings in the Find A Consultant™ Directory and Quick Consultant Search™ Directory.)

When most of us need to hire an accountant or a lawyer, we ask our friends who they would recommend. Similarly, when non-profit leaders need help, they ask someone they trust for a recommendation. To ensure maximum credibility, Nonprofit Central's Find A Consultant™ consultants directory is a recommendation-driven directory of consultants who serve non-profits in the New York and New Jersey area. Ask the nonprofit leader who is recommending the consultant.

Consultants who join Nonprofit Central NY/NJ™ have to submit 2 references in order to join. The submission of references is a step we are taking to ensure the quality of the consultants on this website.

That said, we urge you to check their references yourself. Information on this website is created by the consultants and supplied directly by the consultants listed. Inclusion of information about and from consultants is not an endorsement by the Resource Development Network LLC or the Nonprofit Central Team. Users of this website are encouraged to check the references of any consultant with whom they choose to work.

Users of this website are also reminded that some of the consultants listed, including but not limited to fund raising counsel, professional fund raisers and solicitors, are required to register with the state if they are working in New York and New Jersey.

Who Created Nonprofit Central?

Nonprofit Central NY/NJ™ was created by the Resource Development Network (RDN), a fund raising consulting firm specializing in corporate and foundation proposal writing for non-profit organizations in New York and New Jersey. RDN utilizes a large network of grantwriters to meet its clients' fundraising needs. It links with a much larger network of New York and New Jersey consultants in areas such as strategic planning, board development, marketing, website design, etc. to meets its clients' other needs.

Purpose of Nonprofit Central NY/NJ™

We created Nonprofit Central NY/NJ to help non-profit organizations in this region expeditiously locate the best consulting services and to help consultants to network. Although there are other consultants directories available, many lists are for "members only," or they are available on a fee basis, or they are published only once a year so they are often out of date. We hope that you find this to be a valuable and "always up-to-date" resource for all of us working in the non-profit community in this area.
